To create a short URL, go to the URLS tab, click on “NEW+” or “CREATE NEW +” and enter the name or the URL, the path and optionally the base path.
For example, if you are trying to redirect to apple’s iPhone page, a good name could be “Apple iPhone Landing Page“. The name of the URL is private and helpful when you have many URLs and you need to locate a specific URL in the HighWayPro dashboard. Only letters from A to Z and numbers are currently allowed.
The path of the URL is the last portion of the URL that comes after your domain (and alternatively after the base path). For example, if you set your path as “iphone“, the short URL would be: mysite.com/iphone
Finally the base path is the portion that comes right before the path. This is optional but it’s recommended in order to avoid conflicts with existing URIs and for better organization and structure.
After you’ve entered the desired values, hit “Create” to create the URL. A notification will appear at the bottom left corner of the screen indicating that the URL is being saved. After it has been saved, a notification confirming the action will be shown. A great thing about HighWayPro is that you do not need to refresh the page when creating or editing a URL which makes adding multiple URLs super easy and intuitive.
Adding a simple target
The URL has successfully been created. The only thing that is needed is to have at least one destination with at least one valid target.
Click on “New Destination” to add a new destination to the URL. Then click on the target area (Target: none) and select “Direct URL“. Finally, enter the URL you wish to redirect to. For example: https://www.apple.com/iphone and finally click on “OK“. The target will be saved and at this point, the URL is ready to be used. Click on the “VIEW” button below the path input to access the newly created URL.
Adding more than one destination
While having a single target is fine for most situations, there are times when redirecting users to a different URL based on a set of parameters can be useful. This is where HighWayPro excels. For example, you can redirect mobile users to URL “A”, and desktop users to URL “B”. There are 8 different conditions you can use to filter your traffic.
For example, let’s redirect all mobile users to https://www.apple.com/iphone and all desktop users to https://www.apple.com/mac. To do this click on the condition area (Condition: none) of the destination you created earlier, then click on “Device” > “Allowed Devices” and select “Smartphone”. Click on the card to confirm the selection and the click “OK” to save the condition.
The destination now redirects to https://www.apple.com/iphone if the URL is being accessed from a mobile device. Finally, click on the “New destination” button below to add another destination and repeat the steps above, only this time select “Desktop” as the device and https://www.apple.com/mac as the target URL. you should have something like the following screenshot:
HighWayPro comes with 8 condition and 4 target types.
